2. Expansion and Growth

GHACEM initially established its first production plant in Tema, an industrial hub in southern Ghana. In 1993, during a wave of privatization under Ghana’s economic reforms, the government sold its shares in GHACEM to the Norwegian owners, making the company fully private. This transition allowed for increased foreign investment and expansion.

Later, HeidelbergCement, a global leader in the cement industry, acquired Norcem, which meant GHACEM became a subsidiary of the HeidelbergCement Group. This acquisition connected GHACEM to a vast network of global expertise, innovation, and resources, enabling it to enhance its production capabilities and product offerings.

4. Contribution to Ghana’s Development

Over the decades, GHACEM has played a critical role in Ghana’s development by supplying the cement needed for various infrastructure projects, from roads and bridges to homes and office buildings.
